Planetary gearboxes use three different gear types to transmit torque. The sun gear sits in the center of the gear assembly, while the other gears rotate around it. One of the main differences between a planetary gearbox and a conventional one is the way the planetary parts move. A planetary gearbox may have multiple axes for increased torque.
